Because this is the time of year children trafficking is rife. Unfortunately it is 3 years too late but if it prevents another children being abducted then good.
Home Office have been in touch with their Portugese counter-part and have started to re-examine the case, going through it first t see what could have been done, and to see if evidence was missed (either at the McCanns or at a abductor).
If needs be they will re-interview people (witnesses).
